Why Stanford pet parents choose at-home care
Stanford is its own census-designated place, and dog life on campus runs by campus rules: it is leash-only throughout, and most student housing does not allow pets at all — service and support animals aside. The dogs we groom here belong to faculty and staff households and to residents of the apartment communities that do permit them.
We regularly visit campus faculty and staff residences and Stanford West Apartments, plus the rest of Stanford.

Where Stanford dogs actually spend their time
Knowing where a dog walks tells us what we will find in the coat before we open the van.
- Campus grounds
- leash-only under county ordinance, with a six-foot maximum in designated exercise areas
- Stanford West Apartments
- one of the campus communities with its own pet policy
What that means for your dog’s coat
Campus dogs are leash-and-pavement dogs, so the grooming priorities are the ordinary ones done consistently: nails, ears, eyes and a coat that never gets far enough behind to need a hard reset. It is the profile that benefits most from a fixed schedule, and a visit that comes to you makes a fixed schedule realistic.
